All-Star pitcher Roy Halladay died with drugs in his system, report says

Halladay died in November when his two-seater ICON A5 amphibious plane nose dived into shallow water off New Port Richey, Florida, which is near Tampa. The retired ballplayer had trace amounts of morphine and amphetamine along with an intoxicating level of the sedative zolpidem, commonly known as Ambien, in his bloodstream according to an autopsy report obtained by TMZ. Halladay's blood tested positive for 72 ng/ml.

The report by the Pinellas-Pasco Medical Examiner's Office also showed that Halladay's blood alcohol content was.01.

Witnesses told authorities the plane was climbing, diving, and flying close to the water surface shortly before impact. According to TMZ, the FDA's official website claims that usage of more than 50 ng/ml of the medication "appears capable of impairing driving to a degree that increases the risk of a motor vehicle accident".

The autopsy details injuries Halladay suffered when his amphibious aircraft crash-landed in the gulf, including blunt head trauma, chest trauma, multiple rib fractures, lung injuries, and a fractured leg.

Several nearby boaters confirmed TMZ's report that the pitcher's plane was "dramatically increasing and decreasing in elevation".

The likely hall-of-famer was a two-time victor of the Cy Young Award during his 16-year Major League Baseball career.

Halladay pitched for the Blue Jays from 1998-2009, winning the Cy Young award in 2003. He went on to pitch a no-hitter against the Cincinnati Reds in the 2010 divisional series.
