'Vacation' Helmers To Direct Stand-Alone 'Flash' Movie

The screenwriting duo behind Sony and Marvel's Spider-Man: Homecoming are moving over to DC and are in talks to direct Warner Bros.' Flashpoint movie, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Warner Bros.is certainly making plenty of changes to combat the failure of Justice League. Could Flashpoint do the same for DC cinematic universe after the stumbles of four out of five divisive movies that failed to meet expectations at the box office?

"Flashpoint" had been on hold since director Rick Famuyiwa stepped away from the project.

The studio took their time in finding a new director because the Ezra Miller, who plays Barry Allen/The Flash from Justice League, is busy getting ready to shoot Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, the second installment in the Fantastic Beasts franchise.

Flashpoint is anticipated to zoom into cinemas in 2020, but a concrete release date has yet to be announced.

In a way it's good Ben Affleck never landed the director role for Flashpoint. Robert Zemeckis has been the reported front-runner to helm Flashpoint for the last several months, but Sneider claims the studio looked elsewhere once it decided that it no longer wanted to wait for him to become available.

While these are mere possibilities, it is only the actor or the production house who can tell why Affleck chose to let go of the opportunity. Affleck's version of Bruce Wayne would be limited in screen time and might not be worth involvement if rumors of Affleck's departure from the character are true.

The solo Flash movie is based on the Flashpoint comic book series, released in 2011, and written by DC Comics chief creative officer and DC Films co-head Geoff Johns. That offers the chance of resetting some elements of the DCEU, and there are reports that Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman will appear, and potentially Affleck's Batman too.
