Brigitte Bardot attacks #MeToo actresses

The film star Brigitte Bardot has called female actors who denounce film producers for sexual harassment "hypocritical nobodies" and "teases" who use sex to obtain roles.

The star of "And God Created Woman" says many actresses have come out with sexual misconduct allegations "so that we talk about them".

During an interview with French magazine Paris Match, Bardot was asked about her opinion on actresses who opened up about their sexual harassment experiences. Last week, Catherine Deneuve signed a collective op-ed that said "insistent or clumsy hitting-on is not a crime".

Bardot said, "Regarding actresses, and not women in general, it is, in the vast majority of cases, hypocritical, ridiculous, without interest".

She also said that she had never been sexually harassed during the course of her career, and suggested that it was "charming" when men commented on her appearance.

The 83-year-old actress added that the topic takes away from "important themes that could be discussed", and stated that she has never been a victim of sexual harassment.

Yet she admitted to the magazine that she has not digested what happened to her when she was at the height of her fame in the 1960s, and her love life made global headlines. 'That uncontrollable time made me very distrustful of the human race'.

'I still find it hard to understand what happened to me, ' she said.

The 74-year-old went on to apologize to victims of sexual assault, saying there was "nothing good" about harassment.

"Actually, rather than benefit them, it only harms them, " Bardot said. She has repeatedly criticized immigration and Islam in France since 1998, leading to five fines for inciting racial hatred, and has supported France's far-right political party National Front.
