Trump, Rowe place spotlight on American farmers & ranchers

"In every decision we make, we are honoring America's proud farming legacy", he said.

Randy Kron, Indiana Farm Bureau president, applauded President Donald Trump's recognition of American farmers and their contributions to the country. "For years, many of you have endured burdensome fines, inspections, needless paperwork and relentless intrusion from an army of regulators from the EPA, FDA and countless other federal agencies".

Trump on Monday is set to become the first president in a quarter century to address the annual convention of the American Farm Bureau Federation.

Trump is expected to talk about his executive order relating to agriculture and how his new tax plan applies to rural America. He said that farmers would be spared the "punishment" of the estate tax under the new law, a line from the speech that was met with a standing ovation.

"Deployment in rural America, both wired and wireless, will only happen if we eliminate monopoly, roadblocks on poles, buildings and infrastructure at the state and local level that have prevented new network builders from delivering faster, more affordable high-speed internet to American consumers", Pickering said.

Ag exports account for 20% of farm income, so Trump's campaign threats to tear up trade agreements caused anxiety in farm country, although producers voted overwhelmingly for him because of his platform of tax reform, regulatory relief, and support for corn ethanol.

The goal of the visit was to promote his administration's five-point plan to turnaround struggling rural communities.

Trump was speaking at the 99th annual convention of the American Farm Bureau Federation in Tennessee-a state that incidentally uses nearly half of its land area for farming.

"I was pleased he acknowledged the importance of exports and that he is working to renegotiate a better NAFTA".

But he also suggested that farmers and ranchers are concerned about the status of health care, saying rural areas are facing unaffordable or simply unavailable health insurance policies.

"To get a deal, we need all sides to seriously roll up their sleeves and get to work", Perdue said.

"We are reviewing all of our trade agreements to make sure that they are fair and reciprocal - reciprocal so important", he said. "We are going to end the lottery system and we are going to build the wall".

Burrell got a special White House invitation to be the president's VIP guest and said the convention and Trump's actions could help everyone.

"On November 6, 2017, the Department of Agriculture announced it will invest more than $200 million to help bring broadband to rural communities", the White House released.

"I am looking forward to working with Congress to pass the farm bill on time so that it delivers for all of you".
