DISH to provide voice-based TV control with Google Assistant

Sony should join the Amazon Echo Show-challenging party as well sometime "later this year", provisionally keeping under wraps everything about its own voice-commanded, display-sporting smart speaker.

Between BLACK FRIDAY and the end of DECEMBER 2017, 7% of Americans report acquiring at least one smart speaker - 4% report acquiring their first smart speaker device during the holidays.

LG hasn't offered any details regarding pricing and availability of the device, but already listed the ThingQ WK9 on its website as "Coming Soon".

The new range of products and security systems will provide support for Google Assistant, which will allow homeowners to configure lighting, plugs and other home utilities through the Assistant's smartphone app.

We also get to see the rectangular device in a couple of high-quality renders featuring two front-firing speakers, unlike the single audio-playing setup of the Lenovo Smart Display, with a front-facing camera in tow too for video calling support. With the camera above the screen you can make Duo calls. Ask the LG ThinQ WK9 and it'll play it on YouTube for you.

The Google Assistant is available on your Android phone, iPhone, and headphones, helping you when you're on the go. With Google Assistant, Dish customers with a Hopper, Joey or Wally can enable Hands-Free TV and voice control their TV in multiple languages, including English and Spanish. "We're excited to bring the LINK View to market with JBL and are committed to deliver a helpful, visual Google Assistant experience".
