4 cricketers held for playing Pakistan Anthem in Jammu and Kashmir

4 cricketers held for playing Pakistan Anthem in Jammu and Kashmir

The players can be seen standing with their heads bowed as the Pakistan national anthem plays in the background over loudspeakers. The arrests came in after the video went viral on social media. In the video, two teams of cricketers are seen lined up against each other, apparently in Bandipora district.

The 1.45-minute video showed one team in green jerseys like the Pakistani cricket team.

The stadium where the incident took place seems to be a local ground situated among hillocks.

The ET report said that the police have gotten in touch with the village elders and asked them to ensure such an incident does not happen again. The match was being played between Gondipora and Dardpora Cricket Club.

SSP Bandipora, Zulfiqar Azad, told the Kashmir Wire: "We have made arrests in this regard".

This is not the first instance where Kashmiri cricketers have disrespected the nation by paying respects to Pakistan's national anthem. "There was a local cricket tournament going on at Arin and it was the final match of the tournament", said a source. Two Kashmiri cricket teams have been booked and several players reportedly detained for standing just when Pakistan's national anthem was being played at a cricket match last week.

In another incident, video of two young Kashmiri artistes performing Pakistan's national anthem on traditional instruments of Rabab and Santoor also went viral on social media. The team dressed in green also have their right hands on their chest as the Pakistan's national anthem is being played in the background.
