Radiohead Sues High-Profile Artist Over Song's Similarities to

Lana Del Rey, known for her spacey musical compositions that have featured collaborations from hip-hop superstars like The Weeknd, A$AP Rocky and Playboi Carti, is in a whole bunch of trouble with the attorneys representing living musical legends Radiohead. This week, anonymously sourced reports claimed that the band was planning on suing Lana Del Rey over the song, which Del Rey seemed to confirm in a tweet.

"As Radiohead's music publisher, it's true that we've been in discussions since August of a year ago with Lana Del Rey " s representatives", the statement reads. She said that while her song "wasn't inspired by Creep", she has offered up to 40% of the publishing to settle the matter. I just want to let you know ... that I am really going to strive for [those sentiments], even if that song is not on future physical releases of the record ...

It was rumoured over the weekend that the British band were taking action over Get Free, the closing track of Del Rey's latest album, Lust For Life.

Throughout the video, Fantano discusses just how similar the track's chord progression does sound similar to Radiohead's "Creep", but only so far as the verse of the song. "So we will deal with it in court".

Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars added the writers of The Gap Band's Ooops Upside Your Head to the credits of Uptown Funk; while on Sam Smith's Stay With Me in 2014.

Radiohead have yet to speak publicly about this issue, but they, and "Creep" itself, are no strangers to this type of dispute: They previously had to credit Albert Hammond and Mike Hazlewood as co-writers of "Creep", since the song was found to share similarities with The Hollies' 1972 hit "The Air That I Breathe".

These situation nearly always involve only melodies and chord progressions, and not other elements, less definable, elements of songs, which would open up a whole more lawsuits. Prior to litigation, both sides may also engage their own musicologists to study the similarities between the two compositions.
