PTI confirms Imran Khan's marriage proposal, denies secret wedding

He urged Imran Khan to declare his wedding instead of confusing the people.

Denying reports in the Pakistan media that he had secretly married a faith healer, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman and former cricketer Imran Khan said he had only proposed marriage to Bushra Maneka.

He said if Imran Khan has contracted a marriage, he has done a good thing.

According to a bombshell report by leading daily The News, the marriage ceremony, that did not garner media spotlight, took place on the night of January 1 in Lahore with only a few guests invited to the event, a claim now denied by the senior party leaders.

Speaking to reporters in Hyderabad on Sunday, he said Khan should consider reasons behind his shortcomings before thinking about getting married for the third time.

"It is unfortunate and regrettable that Umar Cheema of the Jang Group chose to do a conjectural story on PTI Chairman Imran Khan's personal life, which also involved another person - a very private lady who is not in public life", read the statement that was tweeted by PTI's official Twitter account.

On Saturday, "The News" claimed that Khan married Bushra Bibi, whom he regarded as his spiritual leader, in a secret ceremony on January 1.

The covert wedding ceremony was reported to have been carried out by Mufti Saeed, a member of the core committee of Khan's PTI party.

However, the clarification issued by PTI has put an end to the rumours surrounding the secret wedding. It added that if the proposal is accepted, Khan will make a public announcement "in the proper manner". "Till then we request the media to give the two families, especially the children, their privacy", the tweet added. Imran Khan divorced his former wife and BBC presenter Reham Khan in October past year. Imran is said to have first met Bushra Maneka in 2015 at a time when PTI was electioneering for NA-154 constituency by-election in Lodhran. He had first tied the knot with Jemima Goldsmith, a British journalist who converted to Islam on May 16, 1995 that ended in divorce after nine years on June 22, 2004.
