Mad Catz returns from the dead, showing new products at CES

"Less than a year after the much-loved brand disappeared from the gaming landscape, Mad Catz is back: under new management, with new ideas, new attitude and most importantly, an entire range of new, high-quality gaming products", the company said in a statement.

The new R.A.T.AIR unlike the wireless R.A.T.9 (which I own) no longer requires the user to swap out short-life batteries, but instead draws power from the new wireless activation gaming surface, included in the pack.

After speaking to long-time company spokesman Alex Verrey, CNET reports that most of Mad Catz's assets were acquired by a Chinese holding company who wanted to keep the brand alive and well.

Mad Catz declared bankruptcy in 2017, but the video game accessory maker has been revived and will even be present at the upcoming CES 2018.

The first new product to be shown off is a revival of Mad Catz' previous gaming mouse series, the R.A.T. AIR. After gambling big on Rock Band 4 - both producing the peripherals for, and contributing to publishing duties - the company was forced to shed huge swathes of its workforce, and all but shut down following that announcement. Likewise, this seems to be a more humble and grounded Mad Catz, going back to the company's roots. New Mad Catz peripherals will be on display at next week's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, which include new peripherals for PC users.

The company will be known as Mad Catz Global Limited.

It's great to see that such a beloved company is making its return this year, but what remains to be seen is whether it will be able to regain the presence it once had within the FGC. Verrey confirmed that the company is in talks with former employees and that it assembled a new internal design team in Asia, but it remains to be seen whether any of that means we still get to see the style of products we got from the Mad Catz of yore.

"We couldn't be more excited than to begin 2018 by announcing the return of Mad Catz to the global gaming arena".

"Mad Catz has been a permanent fixture in gaming for nearly three decades and we firmly believe it's best days lie ahead", Mad Catz Director of Sales and Operations Selena Change said.

At the moment, the new-look Mad Catz has discussed a little about the new products it has in production.
