Michael Flynn Vowed to End Russia Sanctions, According to Whistleblower

Michael Flynn sent a text to a business partner as President Donald Trump was delivering his inaugural address last January that a joint plan between Russian Federation and Flynn's business allies to build nuclear power plants in the Middle East was "good to go".

Flynn, who pleaded guilty Friday to lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, did consulting work with the form as part of a deal to build nuclear reactors across the middle east.

Today, I am writing to inform you about a whistleblower who has come forward with evidence that Lt. Cummings and committee Democrats have complained that Gowdy has stiff-armed the Flynn investigation since he took over the committee in June by consistently refusing to issue subpoenas to the White House and various administration officials, Flynn's consulting firm and his business colleagues related to the matter.

The whistle-blower told Mr Cummings that he was attending an inaugural event on Jan 20, where he met one of Flynn's key allies on this project, Mr Alex Copson, who is described as a managing partner of ACU Strategic Partners, and was working with Flynn to promote the joint project with Russian Federation to build nuclear reactors in the Arab world.

Trump initially considered lifting the Russian sanctions - which were a response to Moscow's military intervention in Eastern Ukraine in 2014 - but ultimately decided against it.

Cummings this week wrote a letter to Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-South Carolina, who chairs the House Ways and Means Committee, to ask that the whistleblower's claims be fully investigated.

The new details suggest that Flynn sought to help the nuclear deal proceed after he joined the White House.

Mr Cummings wrote that Mr Flynn, a retired Army lieutenant general, had attempted to "manipulate the course of worldwide nuclear policy for the financial gain of his business partners". He said Flynn did not cash the check, however.

Cummings said that he practiced law for a long time and has interviewed hundreds of witnesses, and he does believe the whistleblower is "very credible".

According to Cummings's letter, the witness said he met Alex Copson, Flynn's former business associate, at an inaugural event.

So what we have is a second-hand account of text messages allegedly sent by Michael Flynn.

During the conversation, Mr. Copson told the whistle-blower that "this is the best day of my life" because it was "the start of something I've been working on for years, and we are good to go".

The congressman wrote that the whistleblower was "extremely uncomfortable" with the conversation and left shortly thereafter.

A lawyer for Mr. Flynn declined to comment.

Mr Copson couldn't be located for comment.

The Maryland Democrat said he considered "credible" the allegations that Flynn "sought to manipulate the course of worldwide nuclear policy for the financial gain of his former business partners".

Mr Cummings wrote that he delayed releasing the letter at the request of Justice Department special counsel Robert Mueller until his team had "completed certain investigative steps".
