Tuesday's First Warning Forecast: Much warmer and a few showers today

Highs Wednesday will stay in the upper 40s to lower 50s, then we'll drop into the upper 30s and lower 40s Wednesday night.

On Friday, a coastal system is forecast to move up from the south, and that will throw clouds and rain showers into central North Carolina throughout the day.

"Rain totals, per the European Model and the precipitation estimates by the Weather Prediction Center, should be in the 1-2" range or less between Tuesday and Wednesday.

Saturday will be partly sunny after a lingering sprinkles or flurries early in the morning. Once the cold front passes, winds will flip around to the northwest and the air will dry out.

Expect more of the same on Thursday with temperatures again stuck in the 40s all day. Temperatures will fall back into the 40s before dawn after the cold front moves through the state.

A deep upper level trough across the eastern USA will take over the weather for the foreseeable future. The rain will overspread the area from west to east during the afternoon and evening hours.

Cold lows north of the lake around 32 with a light freeze/frost, protect plants/pets/people, and cold south of the lake around 38, protect plants/pets/people. A few waves behind the main line continue to drop light rain or a mist in some locations. The most likely scenario is that we mainly just see a cold rain, with a few wet snowflakes mixing in at times Friday morning. High temperatures Wednesday will be in the middle to upper 50s. After a partly cloudy evening, the sky will become cloudy tonight. Highs in the upper 30s. On and off showers will still be possible through Thursday.
