House overwhelmingly votes to defeat Democrat's bid to impeach President Trump

The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday rejected an impeachment resolution brought to the floor by Rep. Al Green (D-TX).

Green is using what's called a privileged resolution to bring up his bill filing articles of impeachment, which allows him to force a vote in the House within two days without having to get agreement from House Speaker Paul Ryan first.

The impeachment resolution Green circulated Tuesday does not include any allegations of obstruction of justice or other alleged crimes connected to his 2016 presidential campaign or the pending investigations into connections to Russian Federation.

Only a few weeks after it was announced six House Democrats were introducing articles of impeachment against Donald Trump, the House of Representatives has chose to table the proposal.

All in all, it was a politically inept decision on Green's part.

"In doing this, hatred disguised as acceptable political correctness has festered in our body politic and polluted our discourse to our detriment", Green said.

Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Minority Whip Steny Hoyer tell Democrats: "Now is not the time to consider articles of impeachment". The articles of impeachment he brought against Trump in October accused the president of "fueling an alt-right hate machine" that's "causing immediate injury to American society". Although his speech is not criminal, it divides and damages the country, Green wrote in a letter to his colleagues, according to CNN.

They say legitimate questions have been raised about Trump's fitness to lead the nation, but say congressional investigations and a special counsel investigation should be allowed to continue. It is not about Republicans, it is about the fate of our Republic. That's because Republicans narrowly control the House and Democrats are divided on the issue. It divides and damages the social fabric of our country in ways that obstruction of justice can not.

In a tweet on Tuesday, December 5, Green, a Democrat from Texas, announced he had released articles of impeachment against Trump, on which the House will vote on Wednesday.
