Walmart pulls controversial shirt from shelves

With the nation's largest retailer now looped into the controversial mix, journalists, commentators, and politicians have voiced their outrage, questioning the ethics of the Walmart brand.

Walmart has pulled a T-shirt offered by an outside seller from its online store after a journalist advocacy group told the retailer it found the shirt threatening.

In a statement to the publication, Walmart assured shoppers they were not responsible for the appearance of the offensive T-Shirt in question on their site.

Shelley said he received an email from the company within five hours of sending his letter, indicating that the complaint was forwarded to the appropriate team for removal.

'We live in an environment in which political and ideological discourse has deteriorated to the level where some find it appropriate to advocate violence targeting journalists merely for performing their constitutionally guaranteed duty to seek and report the truth'.

NTD checked the website and confirmed that the shirt had been removed from Walmart.com. The company is now reviewing all products for sale on its site from Teespring.

RTDNA noted in its emailed complaint that almost three dozen journalists have been assaulted in the US this year "merely for performing their Constitutionally-guaranteed duty to seek and report the truth".

Shortly after the tweet went viral, one of Teespring.com's competitors pulled the shirt from its e-commerce site.According to the U.S. Press Freedom Tracker, of which RTDNA is a founding partner, at least 34 journalists have been physically assaulted in the U.S.so far during 2017. "Sorry about that. Please contact us if you think this is a mistake!"

The RTDNA's letter to Walmart noted that nearly three dozen journalists in the USA have been physically assaulted in 2017, and that another 48 have been killed worldwide. Thirty-two more have been arrested.

RTDNA recognized Wal-Mart's First Amendment right to sell the shirts, the letter continued, "and the right of consumers to purchase and wear them".

The letter recognizes Walmart's right to sell such merchandise. It takes less than a minute.
