Padmavati protest: Man 'hangs' self from Nahargarh Fort in Jaipur

The body of a man was found hanging at Jaipur's Nahargarh Fort on Friday with messages denouncing "Padmavati" scribbled on rocks nearby even as passions for and against the controversial film continued to rage.

As per the report, the chief of Shri Rajput Karni Sena, Lokendra Singh Kalvi, has condemned the incident.

"We don't burn effigies, we hang", the note reads. It's Rajasthan unit president Mahipal Singh Makrana said the outfit had nothing to do with it. "I want to tell people not to resort to such methods".

The police had said that it is early to comment on the matter and the identity of the man has not yet been ascertained.

In some other stones, the name of the 40-year-old victim - Chetan Kumar Saini - is inscribed alongside the statement: "Chetan Tantrik Mara Gaya (Chetan Tantrik has been killed)".

The Padmavati controversy has now taken a new dark twist. Threats have been issued to give actress Deepika Padukone, who plays queen Padmini, the same treatment as that given to Ramayan's Soorpnakha by Laxman by cutting off her nose. As per a media report, the police has revealed that the way the body has been found hanging from off the parapet of Nahargarh Fort, this could not have been a suicide.

Karni Sena has threatened Bhansali and the protagonist, Deepika Padukoine, with violence. On Thursday the film was cleared by the British censors without a single cut.

Yet, the onslaught of threats to the film's cast and producers has resulted in Padmavati's release, which was scheduled for December 1, to be postponed until further notice.
