Shot clock to be introduced at 2018 Australian Open

Shot clock to be introduced at 2018 Australian Open

From 2019, the number of seeds will change at every major, although there are a host of changes that will be implemented in the mean time.

There were 16 seeds at Grand Slams until after Wimbledon in 2001, when the US Open, motivated by demands from television networks, asked for 32 in the hope that stars would still be in contention in the closing rounds.

After the Next GenFinals in Milan, where some new innovations were experimented-such as short sets, the shot clock to ensure the 25 second rule between points, the elimination of line judges, and the introduction of the no-let rule-the ITF has made a decision to put some new rules in at Slams.

These changes apply to the 4 Grand Slam events only and not to ATP or WTA tournaments.

- Players could be fined up to USD20,000 for violating "strictly enforced" prematch timing, which will give them one minute to meet at the net after walking on the court, five minutes for warming up, followed by one minute to be ready for play to begin. During the recently concluded ATP Finals, Federer had said, "That's how it used to be when I came up, way back when". Additionally, it will also reduce the number of matches with little effort.

Now, any player who plays in a first round match and retires, or does not perform sufficiently well, could potentially forfeit his whole first round prize money as a result.

If a player decides not to withdraw but to compete in the first round and then doesn't play at his best standards, he will be fined and could also be denied the entire amount of the prize money.

A 25-second serve clock will be tried out at the Australian Open in January, but like at this year's U.S. Open, not during main-draw matches.

The statement in full: "The Grand Slam Board (GSB) completed two days of meetings in London on November 15-16". One minute for walk-on. The person replacing them in the field - a "lucky loser" who failed to advance out of the qualifying rounds - will get the other half of that money, plus whatever they might accumulate by winning matches.
