OnePlus 3, 3T finally get their sweet Android Oreo snack

The Oxygen OS 5.0 comes with update to Android Oreo and adds Parallel apps, in simple terms - split screen style feature to the OnePlus 3 and 3T.

It has to be noted that Android Oreo will be last major software to the OnePlus 3 and the 3T series, but will continue to security patches and small incremental updates. The surprising part about the latest update is the fact that the Android security patch in the operating system is still lagging at September, a full two months behind the current security patch level. The new version is rolling out as an incremental update as pointed out earlier.

The company is rolling out the Google's latest chocolate-milk cookie flavoured OxygenOS 5.0 to both OnePlus 3 and its upgraded variant OnePlus 3T via OTA (Over-The-Air). You can also head over to the settings section of your phones to check if you have any update available. The update also adds picture-in-picture support, auto-fill, parallel apps, smart text selection, a new design for quick settings, and more. Both the devices already received Android Oreo through OnePlus's Open Beta program and had received a couple of updates since then. However, this works for OnePlus as the company now has to roll out Android Oreo and Android P for the device fulfilling the mandatory 2 updates policy. In addition to these, the update has added new features such as notification dots, ability to upload photos directly to Shot on OnePlus and the new app folder design to the Launcher.

OnePlus claimed that the Android Oreo Open Beta for OnePlus 5 is due this month with the official roll out to happen sometime near New Year's time.

With the new software update coming in, OnePlus 3 and 3T users are receiving system updates, bug fixes, several improvement and new features. The update is now available as OTA for all users. This way, OnePlus has progressed to become the second manufacturer to roll out the Oreo update to its devices.
