Jimmy Fallon Pays Tribute To Mother In Return To 'Tonight Show'

Jimmy Fallon paid tribute to his late mother after returning to The Tonight Show following his mother Gloria's passing on Monday night. Seated at a piano, Swift demanded attention with the introspective and emotional tune.

Jimmy canceled a taping of "The Tonight Show" that Friday to be by her side, and then canceled last week's tapings to make arrangements.

After Tay Tay's tribute, producer Mike DiCenzo took to Twitter to laud the starlet for offering her vocals during the unannounced performance.

"Last week I was in the hospital and I grabbed her and squeezed her and said, 'I love you, '" he continued.

Referring to the line in the song about hand-squeezing, he added, "I almost gasped".

Daly - whose stepfather Richard Caruso died five after Pattie's death - shared similar sweet memories of his mother when he returned to Today on October 4.

Taylor Swift made a special appearance on Monday night to perform in Gloria's honor. She said yes with zero hesitation.

"[Taylor] was not scheduled to do our show today", he wrote.

She was 68 years old.

"When we were little, my mom would walk us to this store, me and my sister, and she would squeeze my hand three times and say, 'I love you, ' and I would squeeze back, 'I love you, too, ' " he recalled, pausing to gather his composure. I think everyone in the audience started sobbing. We all lost it.

Later in the song, Swift sang another line that struck a chord: "Hold on to your memories, they will hold on to you". She played Reputation album closer "New Year's Day" - the most sombre but also the prettiest song on the record - and it ended with a very emotional hug between the singer and host.

He went on to thank fans for all the support he and his family had received since his mother's death.
