J&K: One terrorist killed by security forces in Kulgam encounter

A Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant and a soldier were killed in a fierce gunfight at Kulgam in south Kashmir on Tuesday, as another batch of militants managed to the give the Army the slip after being trapped in Pulwama.

Reports said that SOG Awantipora and 42 RR of army cordoned off the Lam forest area of Tral after inputs about the presence of militants.

Officials said that troops of Rashtriya Rifles along with Special Operation Group were patrolling Zachaldara area when militants fired on the forces.

SP Pani, Deputy Inspector General, south Kashmir, told The New Indian Express that the injured policeman has been hospitalised and his condition is said to be stable.

The slain militant was identified as Mudasir Badroo, a resident of Yaripora in Kulgam. "Since only one militant has been killed, the rest may have escaped", they said.

The official said that militants managed to change their positions from time and time while government forces sealed all the exit routes.

In a separate operation, militants gave a search party of security forces the slip in Laam forests of Tral, Pulwama.

Officials said the authorities have directed all cellular companies to suspend mobile internet services in entire south Kashmir to prevent spread of any rumour on social media. According to a police spokesperson, "The operation turned into an encounter".
