Chennai young woman set ablaze by youth dies

In a shocking incident, a 21-year-old engineer in Chennai was burnt alive on Monday night allegedly by her former classmate who had been stalking her for about a month.

According to NDTV, the victim's father wasn't home, but her mother, Renuka and younger sister, Nivedita were present when Akash arrived at their doorstep and demanded to speak to Induja.

According to the police, the incident took place in Adambakkam area of Chennai on Monday at around 8.45 pm, reported CNN-News18. He claimed to be in love with Indhuja but she turned down his advances, which angered him and he killed her. Photo Credit: APIndhuja (22) died of the burns she sustained after she was set ablaze, allegedly by Aakash (25), for refusing his proposal.

The accused, Aakash, absconded right after but was caught on Tuesday morning. He poured petrol on her and set her ablaze. He started stalking her after she rejected him and the situation got so bad that Induja had to stop going to work, the report added.

Her mother suffered 49 percent burns, while the sister is undergoing treatment at Kilpauk Medical Hospital.

Aakash claimed that he and the woman were in a relationship and they planned to marry, police officials said. However, when the three women came out, splashed petrol on Induja and used a lighter to set her fire.

On hearing their screams, the neighbours rushed to the victim's house.

The victim, an engineering graduate, was reportedly working in a company for the last few months. "Knowing that my brother is working overseas, the accused came to Induja's residence".
