Mass stabbing at Mall of America in Minnesota

Two men were stabbed in the Macy's store at the Mall of America on Sunday night near where families and children were waiting to see Santa Claus, PEOPLE confirms.

Kim Schwieters told the newspaper she saw armed police running into the department store and her daughter spotted people lying on the ground before police told shoppers to clear the area.

The victim was stabbed, and started to yell for help.

Police identified the suspect as 20-year-old Mahad Abdiaziz Abdirahaman of Minneapolis, CBS Minnesota reports.

The Minnesota's thief's plans were thwarted when his intended target caught Abdirahaman in the act, only for the would-be thief pulling a knife and stabbed the man in turn.

Police said they don't believe the suspect knew the victims.

Police say the suspect had attempted to steal the first victim's property, which was in a fitting room. One man was taken into custody.

Two people were reportedly taken to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.

Both adult males were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police arrested the suspect, who was held by other shoppers after the incident, the Star-Tribune reports.
