Uber appeals decision to cancel its London license

Uber appeals decision to cancel its London license

The business this morning filed its intent to appeal the decision with Westminster Magistrates' Court, which will temporarily extend its operations in the United Kingdom capital, an Uber spokeswoman told The Register.

The company faced a deadline Friday - lodge the appeal or stop its drivers from working in one of the largest cities in the world.

Londoners can still hail an Uber, after appeal documents have been filed.

The appeal process could take months, during which time Uber can continue to operate in London.

A hearing is likely to take place on December 11, a spokesman at Britain's Judicial Office told Reuters.

It said in a statement it was hoping to "continue having constructive discussions with Transport for London". In his open letter Khosrowshahi vowed to make things right with for Uber, so that it can still drive through the streets of London.

Last month, regulators Transport for London (TLF) failed to renew Uber's license and gave the USA firm until October 13 to appeal. She declined to say when Uber would file those.

Earlier this month, Uber's new chief executive Dara Khosrowshahi reportedly met with TfL commissioner Mike Brown for peace negotiations. He didn't go into specifics, but TfL said it banned Uber because of the company's alleged use of its secret "Greyball" software to avoid regulators, and its approach to reporting crime. Uber has been trying to placate the regulators. Khan, who is also chairman of TFL, praised the CEO and said he acted with "humility".

The authorities have a number of concerns about Uber, such as its use of technology that allegedly helps it to evade law enforcement officials.

More than 850,000 people have signed an online petition launched by Uber, urging TfL to reverse its ruling.
