A Lone Democrat Just Introduced Articles of Impeachment Against Trump

Green's move is highly unlikely to get legs in the Republican-controlled chamber, where the resolution is expected to be permanently tabled.

"I rise today on behalf of the many who have concluded that enough is enough", Green said, according to the Washington Examiner.

He said Mr Trump's response to neo-Nazi violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, his attack on National Football League players who had knelt in protest and his debunked claim that Barack Obama had wire-tapped him, had all undermined the integrity of the Oval Office and "brought disrepute on the presidency".

After Green called for the president's impeachment in May (in a speech that led to him receiving racist voicemail messages saying Green should be lynched) California Democratic Representative Brad Sherman introduced articles of impeachment in July, although the articles never gained any traction in the House.

Green's resolution is considered "privileged" by the House, meaning it has to be considered by the end of the week.

This second round of impeachment articles against the president may have sounded impressive, but once again it has already turned out to be a lot of sound and fury, signifying nothing much of real importance.

"There is a right time for all things", Green said after the mass shooting, according to Newsweek. About 7 in 10 Democrats said Mr. Trump deserved impeachment, while 40 percent of Americans in general took the same view. "This is a time for our nation to mourn and for hearts to heal".

Since "high crimes and misdemeanors" was a legal term of art used in 18th-century British impeachments, some legal scholars have argued that mere dereliction of duty is a sufficient standard. The Texas lawmaker, who is black, received racially-charged death threats for his stance that the president should be removed from office, The Texas Tribune reports.

Green, a persistent liberal Trump critic, claimed the president has incited 'white supremacy, sexism, bigotry, hatred, xenophobia, race-baiting and racism'.

Also on Wednesday, the progressive mega-donor Tom Steyer - who spent close to $100 million on the 2016 elections - wrote a letter to the campaign arm of House Democrats urging that the party's 2018 congressional candidates run on impeachment. Democratic Rep. Jerry Nadler of NY disclosed that he would not support a motion to impeach Trump unless there was concrete evidence that he had committed an impeachable offense.

"Before I left the floor, there was an understanding with the parliamentarian and other persons who were there that it would not be voted on immediately", he said. We don't have the evidence; we don't have the case. "Members don't want this vote".
