Walmart is also testing the idea of a new service in Silicon Valley that lets a delivery person walk into shoppers' homes with internet-connected locks when they're not there to drop off packages or put groceries in the fridge. United States retail giant Wal-Mart has continued to improve its customer service and user experience this week, announcing improvements made to the efficiency of its returns service.

Amazon announced in August that it has made deal with retailer Kohl, which offers Amazon returns, shipping as well as packaging service for free at more than 80 of Kohl's department stores in Chicago and Los Angeles.

Carol Spieckerman, a retail consultant and president of Spieckerman Retail, believes Wal-Mart's new return options are another "real step in the right direction" in finding solutions to problems that often can alienate customers. Mobile Express Returns kicks off in November.
