The sequel was confirmed via Stallone in a previous Instagram post from September 1st.

Coogler is now steering Marvel superhero movie Black Panther for release in February 2018, and Stallone himself is assuming directorial responsibility for a Creed sequel. While Stallone didn't write or direct the original Creed, he was lauded for his reprisal of the role Rocky Balboa.

Along with a photo of himself and "Creed" star Michael B. Jordan looking dapper in their suits, Sly writes on the social media site, "Looking forward to directing and Producing The incredibly talented Michael B Jordan in "CREED 2" next year".

Sylvester Stallone is jumping back in the ring for round two. He takes over directing duties from Ryan Coogler, who helmed the first film.

In addition to being a box office success, "Creed" also gave Stallone an incredible acting opportunity, as he went into the 2015 Academy Awards the favorite to win the Best Support Actor award, which went to Mark Rylance ("Bridge of Spies").

Stallone has been teasing elements of the sequel for while now, pushing the idea that Donny may fight the son of Ivan Drago, the Russian boxer played by Dolph Lundgren in iconic 80s cheeseball classic Rocky 4. Creed was a commercial and critical success, earning Stallone raves for his more nuanced performance as the aging ex-fighter.
