Nigerian man attacked: Delhi Police arrests one, four others identified

In a gruesome incident that has come to light on Monday, a Nigerian national was allegedly tied to a post and beaten mercilessly in South Delhi's Malviya Nagar and all of it was caught on camera.

It is worth noting that Malaviya Nagar has a substantial population from various African nations, Nigerians being one of the highest among them.

The attackers, as can be seen in the video, tied him up, and beat him up with sticks, shouting, "Maaro isey!"

According to NDTV, the incident took place two weeks ago when the man was caught outside a local resident's house. Five people were arrested for the attacks.

It was only after being beaten up brutally, the man was handed over to the police, and consequently jailed. The Nigerian national was, after all, caught trying to rob a house; therefore, it seems only fair that a mob did with him what it saw fit. "The Nigerian Embassy was informed about the arrest of Nigerian national Ahmed before he was sent in judicial custody by a court here till Tuesday", Deputy Commissioner of Police Ishwar Singh said.

The police has identified the other four persons, who can be seen thrashing the Nigerian in the video. Although the official did say that that the beating is not justified even if he did steal.

But more worryingly for India back then, the African diplomats had said they "agreed to take further actions including the call for an investigation by the Human Rights Council, and also to comprehensively report the matter to the African Union Commission".
