Imperious Nadal crushes Kyrgios to claim his sixth title of season

Nadal gives a lesson to Kyrgios in the final of the tournament of Beijing.

Nadal defeated Nick Kyrgios on Sunday (8 October) to emerge victorious in Beijing for the first time since 2005, bagging his sixth title of the year in the process.

Nadal, 31, secured the opening set thanks to two breaks of serve before racing through the second set against an out of sorts Kyrgios who struggled to cope with the greater consistency from Nadal's racket.

Nadal was well in control by then and he raced into a 5-0 lead in the second set before Kyrgios slightly delayed the inevitable as the Spaniard sauntered to his 12th consecutive win.

Unseeded Garcia of France won her second title in as many weeks as she stunned new world number one Simona Halep in a closely fought final.

"My game plan today was I was going to play big and not let him dictate at all, and that's what happened".

"For me this is a very important victory".

Kyrgios was back in the spotlight after he capitulated 6-2, 6-1 to the Spanish world number one in Beijing on Sunday, during which he swore, argued with the umpire and was docked a point.

Kyrgios has previously admitted he's "not the professional tennis needs me to be" but says he has found a vision that will make him be remembered as much more than a tennis player.

Kyrgios offered Nadal eight break points in the first set with Nadal taking two service breaks.

"He has a massive future ahead and I'm really good friends with him so it's always fun playing him".

The 26-year-old Halep had the superior mobility - Garcia had her right thigh strapped - but the French player was making the better shots.

In reaching his ninth final of the year, Kyrgios registered his third victory in four encounters with the 20-year-old German Zverev. "I'm excited", Kyrgios said after outclassing higher-ranked Alexander Zverev in the semi-final on Saturday.

"In 2005, I never will believe that I will keep playing tennis in 2017", Nadal said.
