ESPN suspends anchor Jemele Hill after tweets about ongoing NFL player protests

ESPN has suspended Jemele Hill after the host called for a boycott of Dallas Cowboys advertisers on Twitter.

Hill graduated from Michigan State University and served as the grand marshall for MSU during its homecoming back in 2014.

The headlines didn't stop there, as White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders called Hill's tweet calling Trump a white supremacist a "fireable offense", per CNN.

"Jemele Hill has been suspended for two weeks for a second violation of our social media guidelines", the network said in a statement.

Hill, who is African-American, received backlash last month after referring to President Donald Trump as a "white supremacist" after he suggested players be fired for kneeling during the national anthem. Hill said that "Jerry Jones also has created a problem for his players, specifically the black ones". Her original tweet quoted another Twitter user encouraging fans to write to advertisers' corporate offices and post on their social-media pages. Change happens when advertisers are impacted.

"In the aftermath, all employees were reminded of how individual tweets may reflect negatively on ESPN and that such actions would have consequences", the statement continued.

Many people strongly defended Hill's comments, while many other people strongly condemned her and the network that employs her. His rise is a direct result of white supremacy.

ESPN delivered a statement on Monday about Hill's suspension.

"We have addressed this with Jemele and she recognizes her actions were inappropriate", it said. Hill apologized to ESPN at the time for painting them in an "unfair light".
