Google Assistant App Appears on Google Play, New Assistant Features Announced

To recall, Google Assistant on Android is part of the Google Search app (aka Google app) and Google Play Services, unlike on iPhone, where it is a separate app.

After releasing Play Store version 8.2.58 last night, Google has now released another version, possibly bringing some urgent fix to last night's release. The Assistant was first exclusive to Pixel devices but it, later on, was made available for other Android Nougat devices as well. To begin with, the company has updated the Play Store policy, encouraging developers to start building the app. But before we could explore the latest update, Google has released another update, and this time there has been a significant jump in the build number. It may turn out that the hardware on the watches may not be enough to run future versions of Android Wear and hence Google does not want people purchasing it.

Google continues to roll out its voice assistant on more devices. This doesn't add any new functionality, but it does offer a new way to prompt it if you'd rather not say "Ok, Google" or hold down on your home button. You can ask it to perform different functions on your phone like playing music, playing a specific movie or getting a list of all the movies of your favorite actor or sending a message to someone. You can also download it from Google Play.
