Google unveils Home Max and Mini

Like the Amazon Echo Dot, the Google Home Mini is like the company's larger speaker device but without the audio-performance of an integrated stereo driver. Introduced by Google Glass desinger Isabelle Olson, the Home Mini is created to integrate itself into your home decor and seamlessly operate without drawing attention to itself. Well, aside from it being smaller and cheaper, this mini version scraps the high-quality speakers of its bigger brother, with the focus exclusively on Google Assistant. Earlier, it used Google Voice or Project random number. Google is playing catch up now with new Google Home improvements: aside from including support for your phone number, United Kingdom users will also be able to make phone calls with the Home, with all the USA features.

The Google Home Mini is available to pre-order online at the Google Store as well as several retailers including Currys PC World, Maplin, Argos, John Lewis, EE and Carphone Warehouse. It's hard to tell exactly how loud without more thorough testing, though the internet giant claims that the device is 20 times more powerful than the 2016 Google Home.

The hockey puck-like Google Home Mini comes in three colours: chalk, charcoal and coral. However, this feature (like many others) was limited to the United States.

Google is introducing different sizes of its internet-connected speaker to compete against similar devices from Amazon and Apple. Moreover, Google repeatedly focused on Google Home Mini being a means of turning your standard home into a "smart" home. The UK is the latest country to get the feature, coming later this year.

Google is providing users a free 12 months subscription to YouTube Red. It costs $249 in the USA and will be made available soon. The Home Mini is, of course, powered by Google's Assistant rather than Amazon's Alexa, though.

Oh and one more thing.

The Max also supports a variety of music services, including YouTube, Spotify (paid and free), Google Play Music, Deezer, and more. One phrase will basically be able to turn on the lights, roll up a window shade, read the news for you and even start boiling water.
