Red Sox activate LHP David Price from disabled list

The investigation follows a New York Times report that the Red Sox used an Apple Watch to steal signals from the Yankees.

Major League Baseball announced on Friday that it was fining the Boston Red Sox an undisclosed amount that will be donated to hurricane relief efforts in Florida for their illicit use of electronic devices to decipher signs given by the Yankees' catcher in a series last month.

They didn't pile on until they reached the A's bullpen, but with Drew Pomeranz limiting Oakland to one run over six innings, they managed to score enough to claim a 6-2 victory that put the finishing touches on a 6-3 homestand before they embark on their final road trip of the season, which opens on Friday in Tampa.

The Rays (72-75) have flirted with.500 baseball all year long - and with that, lingering contention for the last of two American League wild-card spots - but losing five of seven games has left them 5 1/2 games behind the Minnesota Twins for the second spot with 15 games to play.

The Red Sox are now 13-3 in extra-inning games.

Rafael Devers of the Red Sox tosses his bat after hitting a two-run home run against the Yankees on August 18, 2017, at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts. We've had the opportunity, we've just got to find a way to win games. Among those teams that will be a part of the playoffs will be the Boston Red Sox. Meanwhile, Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports went as far to say that if he was calling the shots, he would've had the Red Sox forfeit all of their games against the Yankees. Jackie Bradley Jr. was 2-for-6 with a walk and a run.

"I think the rule against electronic equipment has a number of policy reasons behind it, but one of them is we don't want to escalate attempts to figure out what a pitcher is going to throw by introducing electronics into that mix". He picked up his 15th win as he and Chris Sale became the first pair of Red Sox left-handers to win at least 15 games since 1953, when Mel Parnell and Mickey McDermott did it. Sale won his 16th the next night.

Casilla came on in relief and promptly hit a batter and then allowed a sacrifice fly to Pedroia and a two-run single to Benintendi. Manager John Farrell said Thursday he looked good in two simulated games. "He kept trying to go to it but it wasn't there for him". Rick Porcello will start game two and is 9-17 with a 4.64 ERA and 167 strikeouts this season.

Manfred said recently at Fenway Park that he wanted to make sure his punishment would be a deterrent for teams thinking about taking illegal measures to steal signs. "It's nice being able to sit here now after the fact, but winning this game boosts the morale".
