Nick Kyrgios adamant he's not like fellow tennis bad-boy Bernard Tomic

Nick Kyrgios adamant he's not like fellow tennis bad-boy Bernard Tomic

Both matches head into Saturday's doubles seeking the win that will put them just one winning rubber away from a place in the final.

Yannick Noah's France take on star-starved Serbia and 28-time champions Australia face Belgium in the Davis Cup semi-finals this weekend.

"His knowledge of the doubles game is huge", Hewitt said.

"We combine well together and played together at Hertogenbosch on the grass where we got to the semis but played out some tight wins".

The win followed Lucas Pouille's shock defeat in the opening singles match.

Kyrgios, who said this week he was still "not taking tennis seriously enough", claimed that the Davis Cup was his "number one priority" this year.

Nick Kyrgios has vowed to keep delivering for Australia in the Davis Cup following his dramatic five-set victory over Steve Darcis in Brussels.

"This year is the best chance we've had in a long, long time".

Aussie coach Lleyton Hewitt explained the switch, telling the Davis Cup's official website: "John is match hardened, he's played a lot of five-set tennis, particularly in NY".

Belgium's David Goffin, the world number 12, will face the unpredictable world number 20 Nick Kyrgios on Sunday, while Australian John Millman, ranked 185, will take on Steve Darcis, 77.

"We are sufficiently intelligent to know that it's going to be a hard match", the 1983 French Open victor said.

Tomic crashed out of the world's top 140 players for the first time in last six years following a dismal 2017 season which saw him getting knocked out in the opening round of each of the Grand Slams.

No one has ever doubted the natural talent of Nick Kyrgios, but many have had a crack at his passion.

"But we want to be in a position where Stolts (Jason Stoltenberg) and I and Tony Roche can make tough decisions because we want guys that are playing well and putting their hand up to play for our country".

Belgium's Arthur de Greef and Ruben Bemelmans are expected to team up against Australians John Peers and Jordan Thompson in Saturday's doubles, with French pair Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut facing Filip Krajinovic and Zimonjic in Lille. Darcis is known for his terrific play at Davis Cup level and will need to continue that trend for Belgium to overcome the Australians. Their head-to-head record stands at two wins apiece, but the Belgians prevailed in the last two encounters - in a first-round fixture in 2007 followed by a 2010 World Group play-off victory in Cairns, Australia.
