Location scout for Netflix's 'Narcos' shot dead in Mexico

Carlos Muñoz Portal, the location scout for Netflix's "Narcos", was fatally shot this week while on the job in Mexico scouting for season four.

A "Narcos" location scout was gunned down this week after traveling to one of Mexico's most violent regions to hunt for settings to shoot for the fourth season of the hit Netflix show.

"The victim's vehicle was found in a cactus field".

It had been widely rumored that Narcos Season 4 will be set in Mexico, instead of the Colombian milieu that was featured in seasons 1 through 3, but this had not yet been confirmed by Netflix or the showrunners. Police are now investigating the circumstances of Portal's death. Hours later the body of Muñoz was discovered in a compact auto on an unnamed dirt road.

The area is widely known to be plagued with drug-related killings as it is nearby the border of Hidaglo.

Netflix said in a statement: "We are aware of the passing of Carlos Muñoz Portal, a well-respected location scout, and send our condolences to his family".

In Julu, the Los Angeles Times reported that homicides in Mexico due to the drug war had spiked to record levels.

Portal had worked on multiple productions for more than ten years.

An investigation into his death is ongoing.

"Given the depopulated area we have no witnesses", spokesman for the State Attorney's office Claudio Barrera said.

Mr Portal is reported to have been killed on Monday, but the news of his death only broke last night (SAT).
