LSU Freshman Dies In Potential Hazing Incident

Additionally, the national Phi Delta Theta General Headquarters has announced that it is suspending all operations of the fraternity's chapter on LSU's campus. Gruver was from Roswell, Georgia.

Louisiana State University Police confirmed to ABC News that it was investigating Gruver's death as a potential hazing incident involving Phi Delta Theta.

Alexander added, "Hazing is unsafe, irresponsible and unacceptable and it will not be tolerated at LSU, period".

Gruver, who graduated from Blessed Trinity Catholic School, had not yet pledged with the fraternity.

The LSU Police Department is investigating the death.

The incident occurred Wednesday night at the Phi Delta Theta fraternity house.

Hazing incidents across the country have claimed lives of innocent students. "We are investigating the matter with the utmost seriousness".

Phi Delta Theta, which was founded in 1848 and now has 183 chapters across the USA and Canada, became the largest fraternity to implement an alcohol-free housing policy starting in 2000.

"This is an evolving situation", Alexander told CNN.

Alexander described Gruver's death as "tragic and untimely". "The chapter and any individuals who are found to have violated our policies will be held accountable", Executive Vice President and CEO Bob Biggs said.

"We in the LSU community are grieving today", Alexander said at a press conference Thursday.

Barron wrote that he worries, "knowing that alcohol misuse and other risky behaviors exist, particularly within fraternity and sorority communities, where all universities see a disproportionate problem with hazing, excessive drinking and related behaviors, such as sexual assault".

Twenty-three percent of LSU's student body is in a Greek organization, according to Ballard.

Alexander offered his "deepest sympathies and prayers" to the student's family and friends.
