Met Eireann issues yellow weather warning for Limerick

Met Eireann issues yellow weather warning for Limerick

The first storm of the season has been officially named and is set to batter parts of the United Kingdom tonight.

Powerful winds threaten damage to trees and buildings with gusts in some parts strong enough to knock out power supplies.

Gusts of up to 75mph were forecast for much of the country, with the strongest winds expected during the evening.

By midday, rain is predicted to hit some western coasts.

"Some restriction to roads and bridges are also possible".

The Met Office has issued a yellow rain warning and said there could be a chance of flooding in some areas.

Tyler Roys, forecast for AccuWeather, said the storm will cross over Scotland on Sunday before moving into the northern part of the North Sea on Monday.

Tropical storm impacts are lower in Scotland than the United States of America and Caribbean - but can still be damaging.

Many places saw a dry and bright start this morning, but there's the possibility of thundery rain.

Temperatures are set to dip to around 7C to 9C.

Nicola Maxey, spokesperson for the Met Office, said the cool weather will bring the risk of hail and thunder by tomorrow.

The rest of the week will be unsettled across most of the country so it looks as if we aren't going to be getting a late summer this year.
