Killed, 14 Injured In Grenade Attack In Srinagar

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir), Sep 07 (ANI): At least one person was killed and 14 others got injured in a grenade attack by terrorists at Jahangir Chowk in Srinagar on Thursday.

The injured have been rushed to a local hospital for treatment.

The site of the blast is close to the Secretariat which houses the offices of the chief minister, her cabinet colleagues and all top bureaucrats. A photograph released by the new agency showed that the front glass of an auto rickshaw shattered due to the grenade blast. Explosion created panic in the area and people were seen running for lives.

Earlier on Wednesday, suspected militants lobbed a grenade on Police station Shopian which didn't explode.

Meanwhile, a massive search operation has been launched by the security forces to nab the attackers.

However, sources said the grenade exploded on road injuring 5 civilians.

He said the doctors conducted the first round of medical checkup of all injured persons and are assessing their condition. "I had a narrow escape", Singh said.
