One Notebook Was Left on the Shelf. 2 Women Wanted It

According to WJBK, the incident started when a couple of women shopping together - ages 32 and 46 - got into an argument with a 20-year-old woman and her 51-year-old mother.

Police say the incident was over school supplies Monday afternoon. The mother-daughter pair ended up walking away with the precious back-to-school item.

But things got truly out of control when a 51-year-old, whose daughter was one of the women involved in the fracas, pulled out a firearm to protect her.

Both groups of women wanted to buy the last notebook on the shelf, and an argument broke out over who reached for it first.

Detective sergeant Scott Baetens said: 'It was in the back-to-school section, over the purchase of a notebook. At least they did until her mother pulled out her gun.

You'll find women invectivant energetically in a store aisle, when one of them pulls out a loaded pistol from her purse and points in the direction of the other two.

According to the paper, police reviewed the footage as part of their investigation and then submitted the case to the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office for review and possible charges.

"It was a senseless act of violence all the way around", said Baetens.

Novi police say they need more witnesses to come forward as they work to get surveillance video from the Walmart to get a closer look at what happened. All four women could be facing charges for assault, which carries a 90-day sentence.

In the end, Baetens said he's unsure who got the notebook.
