GBBO launches on C4 with 5.8m viewers

After months of controversy Channel 4 have finally aired the first episode of their take on The Great British Bake Off with new hosts Sandi Toksvig and Noel Fielding.

The broadcaster paid £75m for the show in a three-year deal.

With new judge Prue Leith and presenters Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig in tow, here's the round-up of everything that happened in "Cake Week".

But what did you think of the new series?

Each week Jo chats to a panel of celebrity Bake Off fans, looking at all the goings-on from the tent.

The remaining 11 bakers must whip up sandwich biscuits with delicious fillings for the signature challenge, before embarking on an obscure technical challenge set by Paul. In the Guardian, Lucy Mangan said: "The whole thing was a glorious return to - or rather, retention of - form".

Despite the drop in viewership, Channel 4 will no doubt be celebrating the result.

In a blog during the broadcast for The Guardian, Rhik Samadder offered a more muted reaction: "It's long, and adverts are.wearing", Samadder concluded, referring to the fact that the BBC, which is publicly funded, does not have commercials.

Some critics were less gung-ho.

Many fans had already made their minds up about the new presenting line-up before the show had even made its Channel 4 debut.

But it's not just a new experience for the bakers.

A fan Tweeted: "Flo you've stolen my heart... a watermelon cake..."

We had a sleuth through their social media channels to see who loved the new show, and who was slightly more sceptical...

When it was announced that The Great British Bake Off was heading for Channel 4 and leaving Mel Giedroyc, Sue Perkins and dear old Mary Berry behind, we were outraged to say the least.
