Responsible Countries Take Terrorists Down: US Defense Secretary On Pakistan

The United States has attached new conditions to Pakistan to aide it in military exercises.

Senior administration officials described the forthcoming USA approach to Pakistan as "substantially tougher approach to Pakistan ... probably since shortly after the 9/11 attacks", in a background call before the August 21 speech.

Stressing that the USA would allow it to review the level of its cooperation with Islamabad before making new commitments, the State Department said, "Consistent with our new South Asia strategy, this decision allows us the flexibility to continue reviewing our level of cooperation with Pakistan prior to committing new security assistance resources to projects in Pakistan".

This move is initiated by the Trump administration to change the approach of the Pakistan government towards terror groups, the State Department said that while the USA valued its cooperation with Pakistan and wanted to see it continue.

Nisar also ridiculed Trump's claim that the U.S. has paid "billions and billions of dollars" to Pakistan and called on the government to issue the record of the past 20 years to "expose" American claims."It's not billions of dollars, it's peanuts", the former interior minister said while addressing the National Assembly. Once Pakistan more aggressively pursues the Taliban and Haqqani network, the aid will be released - a determination to be made by Secretary of State Rex W Tillerson, officials said.

Other demonstrators punched the air and held up placards reading, 'US President Donald Trump (is) stupid'.

The Pakistani authorities also called for the postponement of high level officials travel between the two countries besides calling for the elimination of the alleged terror safe havens in Afghanistan, set up of a timetable for the return of the refugees, and taking steps to stop the influence of India in Afghanistan as they allege that India is using the Afghan soil to carry out attacks in Pakistan. US officials worry that if Pakistan becomes an active foe, it could further destabilise Afghanistan and endanger USA soldiers.

He said Pakistan strongly condemned the terrorist attacks in Afghanistan in which precious lives of innocent people have been lost and sympathised with the bereaved families and pray for the victims.

He added that Pakistan was concerned about Islamic State flourishing in Afghan provinces bordering Pakistan.

Asif termed an increased role for New Delhi in Kabul "highly detrimental to regional stability" and accused India of supporting terrorism and "destabilizing politics in the region".

The resolution rejected the remarks of President Donald Trump and the USA commander General John Nicholson regarding the leadership councils of the Taliban and Haqqani network in Pakistan. This comes at a time when ties between Washington and Islamabad are amongst their lowest in decades.
