Ohio State opens at IN tonight

In the first game of the season, it became very obvious that anchor of the Ohio State team is going to be the defense.

The Buckeyes have won 21 consecutive games against the Hoosiers and lead the all-time series 72-12-5. Receiver Simmi Cobbs Jr. had a career-high 11 catches for 149 yards and one TD. He did the exact same thing an hour later in the first half. The play ended up being called back, but that was the momentum swing that ignited the Ohio State offense and started a 36-7 run in the second half.

In the process, we learned the following three things. "They came out (in the second half) with a plan, and they executed".

The offense will be coached by new offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson, the former IN head coach who was sacked after the 2016 season amid reports of player mistreatment. The Hoosiers saw highlight-reel catches from their offensive playmakers, several key third-down stops by their defense and a packed stadium eager to fuel them to the momentous victory IU's program has craved. This requires good reads and a quick trigger, but that's always been within his wheelhouse. Ohio State and MI come to mind. Both are created to work between the hash marks or on the perimeter. From the quarterback position alone, the Buckeyes have the big advantage against the Indiana Hoosiers. "Hats off to them, they played a great game". The hope goes that Wilson's return to the coordinator role will catapult Ohio State's offense to newfound heights. "We can't give up those big plays".

But, Ohio State is, of course, the better of the two teams.

Last season, IN football averaged 426.0 total yards, 273.8 IN passing and 152.2 IN rushing.

But all of the Buckeyes seem to sense they have a star in their midst.

This isn't a long-term arrangement; when Ohio State faces the Oklahoma Sooners next week, the team fully expects Weber to be back on the field.

Meyer said that like it was an underachievement. Disappointed in the finish, very proud of our start to the game and most of the third quarter. On second and seven from the Ohio State 41-yard line, Barrett slipped a pass over the middle of the field to junior wide receiver Johnnie Dixon, who outraced Indiana's secondary to the goal line. They know that for almost three quarters it was a tugboat race. That put the game away. It wasn't enough though and the lack of any ground game certainly hampered the offense down the stretch.

Rutgers averaged 5.0 per attempt last season, and that placed it 128th in top-rung college football, out of 128.

Freshman Cole Gets and sophomore Devonte Williams also saw limited time at running back, while IU's leading rusher, freshman Morgan Ellison, recorded his 24 yards while the game was out of reach in the fourth quarter.

We will have a better idea of where Ohio State stands after opening weekend is in the books, especially after No. 1 Alabama and No. 3 Florida State kickoff the season at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game.
