Military Spokesperson, Director of Orientation Brigadier General Ali Qanso said in a press conference shortly after the "Dawn of Outskirts" offensive launch: "There has been no direct or indirect coordination with Hizbullah or the Syrian military in the army's offensive".

On Sunday, Lebanon's National News Agency reported soldiers used heavy artillery and rockets against IS positions in Jurud Ras Baalbek.

The two forces cleared 87 square kilometers that had been in the hands of the terrorist group, the report added.

The operation by Hezbollah and the Syrian army took the place in the western Qalamoun region of Syria.

Syrian warplanes have bombarded mountainous areas controlled by the Islamic State group near the border with Lebanon. He admitted that this was the "most hard battle" so far waged by the Lebanese army.

Last month, Hezbollah concluded a joint counter-terrorism campaign with the Syrian army at Lebanon's highlands of Arsal. In a speech on Sunday, Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah pressed the Lebanese state to strengthen relations with Assad's government.

But Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah said the Lebanese army would attack Daesh from its side of the border, while Hezbollah and the Syrian regime would simultaneously assault from the other side.

Since the start of the Syrian conflict, the northern part of Lebanon has been a vulnerable area since it is close to the Syrian borders.

Daesh and Nusra Front militants captured over 30 soldiers and policemen when they briefly overran the nearby town of Arsal in August 2014.

Hezbollah is deeply embroiled in the civil war that has raged in neighbouring Syria since 2011, fighting in support of President Bashar al-Assad's regime.
