Philippe Coutinho hands in Liverpool transfer request after Barcelona bids

Coutinho emailed a transfer request to the club on Friday after Liverpool's owners, Fenway Sports Group, issued a strongly worded statement saying the midfielder would not be sold in the transfer window.

Philippe Coutinho wants out of Liverpool, with an offer from Barcelona on the table.

While the Brazilian has earned the wrath of the Liverpool fans for putting in a transfer request a day before their opening league game of the season, it has been claimed that the player felt compelled to do so.

On Wednesday, the Reds rejected a 100 million euros bid (£90 million) from Barcelona for the 25-year-old, who is out of today's trip to Watford with injury.

The Brazil star responded to a statement issued yesterday morning by Reds bosses FSG, which definitively started he would NOT be sold during the current transfer window under any circumstance for any price - by slapping in his demand to leave.

Liverpool hadn't had the best of lucks in the transfer market, seeing their interest of signing RB Leipzig's Naby Keita rejected by the German club, and also having to apologize to Southampton in an attempt to lure Virgil van Dijk away from St Mary's. But, the Reds seem to be denying any such incident, and remain rigid on the fact that the Brazil worldwide would not be going anywhere this season.

"I've spoken a few times about how I'm not the president of the supporters' club for loaning players, giving them to other clubs, especially at a very young age", revealed Klopp, referring to his previous criticism of the English loan system.

That message appeared on Liverpool's official website just prior to Klopp speaking at a press conference, during which he said of FSG's statement: "I think if somebody, in this case FSG, is saying something like this, that is the statement".

Liverpool have already knocked back two bids - with the second reportedly around £90million - from the Catalan outfit, and if they would go all out against the player's wishes to leave remains unseen.

"I can't say anything about it, the only thing is I work with the players I have". He was not in training since last Friday.

Lallana is missing extended time, but it gets more complicated when Phillipe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge are also in doubt.
