Olivier Giroud: 'Arsenal kept the faith against Leicester City'

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Friday night's match-winner Olivier Giroud has decided to stay at Arsenal next season, ending interest from Everton, West Ham United and Marseille.

It remains to be seen what happens with PSG threatening to destabilise both Manchester City and Arsenal's plans with a highly lucrative offer for the player.

Alexandre Lacazette scored his first Premier League goal within the first two minutes of the game, before Shinji Okazaki cancelled the Frenchman's opener three minutes later.

Wenger said he gave Giroud the option to leave for another club this summer in search of more regular playing time but was thrilled when the striker decided to stay.

"I'm personally convinced that will happen soon", Wenger was quoted as saying by espnfc in a Football Writers' Association Live event to raise money for victims of the Grenfell Tower fire disaster.

"Whether we manage to get him to sign an extension or not - we have so far not been able to". "We kept the faith and kept believing in our game to push hard".

And Robson believes the 28-year-old can put his recent inconsistent displays behind him and be the Gunners' stand-out star this term. At some stage, I opened the door for him because I knew that I had many strikers.

As always is the case, Arsenal begin their 2017-18 Premier League campaign with high hopes.

But Leicester couldn't resist a relentless final 15 minutes from Wenger's side, and Giroud's win was a cruel blow to a side that had offered so much to an exhilarating 90 minutes. "Mesut Ozil ... we have plenty of the same type of players".

"We've been courageous to the end and thank God we won the game", he added.

Asked if he expected Al-Khelaifi to get in touch, Wenger replied: "No, no. I think if you read the French papers, they are on Mbappe's case to finish their transfer market".

Leicester boss Craig Shakespeare also talking to Sky Sports: "We spoke about being compact and being a threat with the pace of Vardy".
