The Premier League finally returned to our screens this evening with Arsenal playing host to Leicester in the season opener. Arsene Wenger's men, though, would have the last laugh as Aaron Ramsey leveled seven minutes to time before substitute Olivier Giroud won it in the 85th.

It's fantastic. I must say I opened the door for him at some stage because I know that it's important for him to play, but I don't want him to go and in the end he chose to stay.

Giroud's Arsenal future had been subject to considerable doubt after five years, with the £46.5m ($60.4m) club-record signing of Alexandre Lacazette expected to restrict his starting opportunities even further.

Wenger has said Giroud will not be leaving the club during the transfer window despite apparent interest from Everton and Marseille.

Albrighton crossed for Jamie Vardy to put Leicester ahead after Xhaka had gifted the ball straight to him.

"It's simple, in every game he is stronger since he joined us", Wenger said.

'At one stage I opened the door for him as I knew I had many strikers and in the end he made a decision to stay'.

Giroud told Sky Sports after the game that he and his teammates never doubted they could come back.

"We had one of the oldest teams in the Premier League so we made a decision to put energy in the team for the next five, six years", Guardiola said during his pre-match conference on Friday.

He said: "I knew I had the chance of coming on in the game".

Arsenal will be looking to improve their Premier League form this season after the disappointment of their fifth-placed finish in the top flight last term.

Leicester levelled things up nearly immediately as poor positioning from Petr Cech allowed Okasaki to head home from close range - although Granit Xhaka should have done better to challenge the striker. Ramsey smashed a sitter from a few yards out and Giroud headed the game victor off the crossbar.

"The first goal was from a short corner and we were not focused enough and on the second goal we lost the ball in the build-up and got punished again", he said. We were quite good a year ago on corners and overall I believe that with a bit of work we can get that out of the system.
