NBC to Resurrect

The company's Mike Shoemaker is also executive producing the project, along with Odd Mom Out creator Jill Kargman. It will follow members of an "offbeat family" who try to stay true to who they are but fit in in "hipster Brooklyn".

NBC has confirmed to Variety that a reboot of the classic television show The Munsters is in development. The series starred Fred Gwynne as the patriarchal Herman Munster, a bashful Frankenstein's monster caricature, with Yvonne De Carlo as his vampire wife Lily, Al Lewis as her father, Butch Patrick as their lycanthropic son Eddie, and their "normal" niece, Marilyn, played by Beverley Owen and Pat Priest in the series.

The Munsters now is reverting to its original half-hour comedy format. In the original, the Munsters lived at 1313 Mockingbird Lane in the city of Mockingbird Heights, a suburb in California. Under Meyers and Kargman at NBC, the reboot will relocate from sunny Mockingbird Heights to "hipster Brooklyn" in NY.

In 2012, NBC ordered a remake of the '60s sitcom from Bryan Fuller called Mockingbird Lane. That green-lighted comedy series features a cynical Ivy League professor who loses out on his dream job and goes to work as a high school biology teacher where he imposes his unorthodox teaching style and uses the kids to plot his revenge. The original series only aired for two seasons in 1964-66, but if the Batman TV series taught us anything - it's that you can still be a classic despite your short lifespan'. The pilot aired on Halloween 2012, but the darker, dramatic take did not get picked up to series.

"I won't say we won't do another version of The Munsters again", NBC chief Bob Greenblatt said in January 2013.
