Google engineer fired for 'sexist' memo takes legal aim at company

In a report by The Guardian, the OFCCP said, "The department has received compelling evidence of very significant discrimination against women in the most common positions at Google headquarters...discrimination against women in google is quite extreme..." Despite the fact that his memo was created and shared internally a month ago, no one from the company's management warned him about possible repercussions of sharing it more widely, he said.

Google may also potentially face a legal challenge from James Damore, the engineer who wrote the memo, and who was sacked on Monday.

In response to the screed by former engineer James Damore - which attributed a lack of women in tech to "personality differences between genders" - lawmakers on Capitol Hill are slamming Google and its peers for failing manifestly to recruit, retain and protect workers of diverse backgrounds.

"They're putting their ideology before truth", Damore said.

During the interview with the Daily Wire's Ben Shapiro, Damore claimed that Google firing him for pushing "harmful gender stereotypes" only revealed the company's overblown emphasis on diversity, denying allegations that his memo had pushed "harmful gender stereotypes".

Google CEO Sundar Pichai is expected to lead the town hall with other members of the company's leadership.

Of 440 Google employees who responded to a Blind survey on Tuesday and Wednesday, 56% said they disagreed with Google's decision to fire Mr. Damore. "I had some discussions there, there was lots of just shaming, and "No you can't say that, that's sexist" and 'You can't do this, '" he said.

A Google spokesperson declined to comment, but said that 60 employees was 'a really small sample size'.

Among those calling for change is Rep. Ro Khanna, the tech industry-backed Democratic lawmaker who represents a slice of Silicon Valley.

"There are some topics that are off limits, including gender and racial diversity", he said. She said change is hard and "often uncomfortable".

In the 45-minute exchange, that you can view below, Damore reveals he penned his 10-page manfiesto after attending a Google diversity program that he found "secretive" and "shameful". Executives fielded a variety of questions over the hourlong meeting but none of the questions were in support of Mr. Trump's victory. But she added she had heard from conservative employees who "haven't felt entirely comfortable revealing who they are. We need to be tolerant and inclusive".
