"Despacito" video is first on YouTube to top 3 billion views

The racy Spanish-language global smash hit has over 3 billion views worldwide, ahead of "See You Again" by Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth at 2.994 billion. Universal Music launched the "India Dance Video" of "Despacito" in collaboration with National Award-winning choreographer Shiamak Davar recently.

"Despacito" has broken the record for YouTube's Most Viewed Video of All Time.

The chart shows that not only is the original "Despacito" video the most viewed, it achieved the feat much quicker than any other top video in YouTube history.

Yes, the track, released on January 12 of this year, has benefited from the remix featuring Justin Bieber, but we're not talking about the numbers contributed by that video.

"Wow", Puerto Rican rapper Daddy Yankee, who is featured on 'Despacito', said to his almost 17 million followers on Instagram.

Also enjoying a solid improvement this week is Kesha's "Praying" (RCA/Sony), up 16-7 for the singer-songwriter's eighth top ten on the tally and the first since "Die Young" went to No. 3 in November 2012. "Thank you so much and I can't wait to see you guys!"

The debate will continue about YouTube's value to musicians and to the music industry of course.

YouTube also recognized the influence and growth of Latin music overall on its platform.

Psy's "Gangnam Style", which held the number one spot for years is now at number three.
